ACTIVITY                                                                                                                 ASSESSMENT
INTRODUCTION
Teacher  enters with a pleasant smile and asks whereabouts of students.
Teacher tells that for stability different atoms combine together and form
covalent bonding.  Teacher asks some examples for compounds which
formed by different atoms. Hence today we discuss about covalent bonds
formed by different atoms.

GROUPING
Teacher divides students to various groups. Teacher advices students to
choose a name and leader for each groups.
ACTIVITY 1
Teacher shows the electron dot diagram of hydrogen and chlorine atoms.
Then  teacher asks students to  examine them and record it in their
  science diary .
DISCUSSION POINTS
How many electrons are required for a chlorine atom to complete its octet?
How many electrons are required for a hydrogen  atom to complete its octet?
Illustrate the formation of chemical bond in hydrogen chloride molecule?
How many electron pairs are shared?
CONSOLIDATION OF IDEAS
1 electron.
1 electron.

One pair of electrons.
ASSESSMENT
Involvement in activity
Acquiring skills
Concept formation
Performance/ presentation
Recording/ preparation
ACTIVITY 2
Teacher shows the electron dot diagram of carbon and chlorine atoms and teacher
distributes activity cards and asks students to discuss and record it in their science diary.

DISCUSSION POINTS
How many electrons are required for a carbon atom to complete its octet?
How many electrons are required for a chlorine  atom to complete its octet?
How many chlorine atoms have to combine with a carbon atom to complete
 its octet ?
Which type of chemical bond is possible in carbontetrachloride molecule?

CONSOLIDATION OF IDEAS

ACTIVITY 3
Teacher asks students to illustrate the chemical bond formation in carbontetrachloride
molecule and also form a definition for covalent compounds and record them in their
science diary .
DISCUSSION POINTS
Illustrate the chemical bond formation in CCl4 ?
How many pairs of electrons are shared by a chlorine atom?
How many pairs of electrons are shared by a carbon atom?
How we represent the molecule using symbols?
Define covalent compounds?

CONSOLIDATION OF IDEAS

1 pair of electrons.
4 pair of electrons.

Compounds formed by covalent bonding are called covalent compounds.
